October -2 November. More Songs about Buildings and Food Pt.2 |
||
I
apologised to Jan that I just had to stop and take some more pictures of the roadside
flowers and trees. She said each time we'd passed one and gone 'wow' she had wanted to ask me to
stop and photograph, but
since I was driving she didn't want to interrupt. (Great communication,
and we're married!). It's got something to do with me intimidating her
so that she doesn't photograph things herself anymore. I can see the
scenario. When I shuffle off in old age she'll have a sudden urge to
join a camera club and be free of my dominating camera, probably winning
awards for her sensitive images. So there are now a lot of images of plants, not all identified but I'll save them for a later entry. We were lucky that there were still a lot of patches of wildflowers even in November (they peak in September). |

They
now live in Kalgoorlie, a surprising place for two city kids but they seem happy.
Kalgoorlie is a
big country town with great old buildings and surprisingly good
food. I took a lot of
pictures, including these. (Seven
images total approx 220k, 350 pixels wide, popup window). There's
a sudden end to the town and you're in a mine, pubs, Victorian
buildings, tin shed brothels ('Tourists Welcome'). Have a look.
|
||
This
is the
super pit. Or Super Pit. One of the reasons Kalgoorlie is there. They're
digging their way through gold bearing dirt that promises to be at least
as deep again as they've dug so far. The huge trucks wind their way down
and up again all day. There is a 'blast' that you can watch during the
day and another at night.
