Anticol
This commercial launched the line "Anticol puts out the fire in your
throat". The production values don't cut it in this digital age, but
it's made without using special effects. We used a real firebreather
(the fire was ignited by a gas jet hidden behind a small tree in the
foreground) and the little old ladies got a real scare!
Yoplait
This was the first time I wrote myself a trip overseas. Spotting a
similarity between the Arc de Triomphe and the Yoplait twin pack was the
starting point for this campaign. Hanging our hat on the French
connection proved a winner, with the Yoplait winning the "Product Launch
of the Year" in the (then) Hoover Marketing Awards. Director: Tony Lawson.
National
Mutual I worked with art director William de Silva on the pitch
that won the National Mutual business for Clemenger Melbourne and became a
long-running campaign - "For the most important person in the world -
you." This commercial includes one of my rare voice-over gigs.
Director, Gordon Glenn.
Four
'n Twenty What's the essential truth about a pie? It's hot
stuff. We used the Donna Summer classic track and told a story about a
surfer. Ford liked it so much they wanted to give us an Escort wagon as a
promotional prize. Shot by the legendary John Ashenhurst in Sydney and the
Blue Mountains.
Wedgwood Fast food in the comfort of your own home.
Annette Ringrose made the original figures and did lots of the animation
effects. Despite minimal media spend, this became a well recognised and
remembered campaign.
ScotTowels
The "Drink, Drink, Drink" song was suggested at a Clemenger creative
weekend (some say by Peter Clemenger himself, but the true story has been
lost in the mists of alcohol and time). The visual, though, was what
made this demonstration commercial intriguing. We had a lot of fun
making a mess in the office, trying to work out just how much liquid you
could pour down the middle of a roll. The commercial was recently
re-made for the New Zealand market by the guy who art-directed the
original - Clemenger stalwart Peter Becker.
Butter
Menthols One in a long-running series initiated by Myles Pedersen.
This was a rubber boat full of navy 'frogmen', one literally whose 'croak
was beyond a joke' and fixed by a soothing Butter Menthol. The ship in the
background was a masterful, and expensive, touch. Director, Tony Williams.
Centenary
of Federation How to shame people into being interested in
their own history. By the end of the campaign the number of people
who knew who Edmund Barton was increased from about 15% to 95%. This
commercial helped win director Amanda Jane her "Young Director of
the Year" accolade at the ATV Awards.
St
John Ambulance Australia The brief was to raise awareness of
St John's charity status. Cameraman Steve Little followed volunteers
around to a variety of events and the result underlined the importance of
their work.
Elections
ACT One of a series of commercials for the 1998 election.
The ACT Electoral Commissioner was very happy with voter turnout and the
percentage of formal votes cast after this campaign.
